DIS introduced varsity jackets for students in K–11 at the beginning of this school year. Families received an email with a link to purchase the jackets through the school’s official apparel vendor, THE RIM, on July 22. The school displayed sample jackets in the main entrance lobby in August, which gave  students and teachers a glimpse of the new design.

While DIS only offered these types of jackets only to seniors in the past, administrators expanded the option to all grade levels this year. Such inspiration derived from fan gear commonly seen in universities and other international schools.

Under headmaster Mr. Jolly’s lead, the school also looked forward to boosting school pride and sense of belonging. “The new jackets are intended to create a greater sense of unity and belonging among students while also promoting the school outside the campus,” Katie Kim, DIS Marketing and PowerSchool Director, said.

DIS worked with athletic apparel vendor THE RIM to create the design, which features the school logo on the chest and the school name and founding date on the back. The design was chosen through a meticulous process after assessing several mock-ups based on Mr. Jolly and Ms. Kim’s ideas.

DIS sophomore, Arin Lee, purchased a letterman jacket. Besides representing DIS, the coat offers additional layers as the weather cools down. “Winter and fall are coming and it’s time to get warmer coats,” Lee said.

According to Ms. Kim, 166 out of 334 pupils, around 50% of the student body, put in orders, the majority being elementary and middle schoolers. With colder weather just around the corner, the apparel is set to arrive by Oct. 19th.
