DIS uses a web-based student information system called “PowerSchool”. The system handles attendance, grades, discipline, student information, student reports and school announcements.

Benefits of using PowerSchool

Upon enrollment each student and parent will be given an online account. This will be the main form of communication from teachers regarding your student.
At any time the student or parent can log onto the DIS server and receive information on the student’s grades, homework, attendance, etc.
Teachers will update their online grade book throughout the year in order to keep parents and students informed of their academic status.
Through the parent/student account and emails the school will inform parents of academic or attendance issues, and student discipline.

Log Out of PowerSchool Parent Portal

When you are finished working in PowerSchool Parent Portal, it is important to log out of the application, which can be done from any page in the application.
Note: If you are not actively working in PowerSchool Parent Portal, your session may time out. If so, you need to log in again.

Password

Students/parents will receive a randomly generated password for access to PowerSchool. This password cannot be changed by the student/parent. As stated above, students/parents are to protect their password so that no one else can gain access to their information on PowerSchool. If a student/parent forgets the password, he/she can contact the Registrar, Ms. Katie EunJeong Kim in Room 109 to receive it again.

Grades/Attendance Questions

Although our staff is always willing to talk with you about your child’s progress, we have found that following the steps below can often resolve your concerns:
  • Talk with your child first. Ask them what the situation is with their grades.
  • Ask the teacher about grading policies. This may answer questions of why the student has received a grade or explain how the assignments add up to the current average.
  • Check to see if there is an assignment description. In the Class Score Detail screen, if the assignment is listed in blue it will have more information about the assignment. This may help you in understanding what was involved or expected for a particular assignment.
  • Check the date of the assignment. An assignment handed in late may receive deductions from it score. Remember – early in the marking period, overall grades can fluctuate dramatically because of the lack of assignments in the grade book.
  • See if there are any missing or late assignments that could be affecting the overall grade average.
  • Realizing that no system is perfect, if a discrepancy is found please send one email to the attention of the teacher. We are all working together to achieve the highest level of consistency and accuracy possible. Please be patient as we continue with developing this program to be the best it can be.
Students/parents may have questions about an assignment or an attendance code after viewing their information on PowerSchool. Students/parents are directed to the teacher if questions arise regarding grades or attendance.
Access ID and Access Passwords are available on the bottom of the 1st page of instructions. If you forget them, please ask the Registrar, but remember that access ID and passwords must be picked up by parent/guardian of student. For you and your children’s protection, we will not give information over the phone or by e-mail.
